Srinagar: Former chief minister of Jammu Kashmir and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti on Friday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his party BJP saying that the right-wing party has desecrated the Constitution of India for political gains.

Mehbooba called the abrogation of Article 370 a “dacoity” with the people of Jammu Kashmir.

Addressing her first press conference after being released from a 14-month detention Mehbooba said the BJP-led central government has nothing to show to ask for votes.

“The country is even behind Bangladesh when it comes to the economy. Be it unemployment or any other issue, they have failed on all fronts,” he said.

She further said that when the Centre fails on all fronts, it is reminded of Kashmir and Article 370.

Asked the J&K flag displayed on the desk she called it ‘our flag’ saying “we will take tricolour in our hand when we get our flag back”.

“The flag of Jammu and Kashmir was the only reason behind the relation with the other flag,” she said.

“The decision was taken last year by the centre to abrogate article 370 was nothing a dacoity as it was done illegally against the constitution,” she added.

The erstwhile state flag is red in colour with a white plough and three equidistant white vertical stripes. The flag lost its official status on August 6th 2019 following the removal of the region’s special status through the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution of India and was lowered for the last time on August 25, 2019.

Mehbooba said the ruling BJP had already desecrated the Constitution of India and the tricolour by unfurling it in a pro-rapists rally in Jammu.

About elections, she said that individually she has nothing to do with the elections now.

“I won’t take part in elections without the constitution and flag of the erstwhile state of J&K,” she said.

However, the PDP chief said that her party leaders would decide about the electoral politics for everyone and then the signatories of Peoples Alliance will sit and take the final decision.

On China incursion in the Indian territory, Mehbooba said it’s a fact that China captured 1000 sq km of the Indian territory and somehow India managed to get back around 40 km.
